In Memoriam ~ Dale Hill

Sadly, one of our volunteers tutors has passed away.

As posted in the local newspapers: The cherished husband of Beverly Ann Hill for 32 years, Dale passed away in Roseville on August 30, 2009 at the age of 52.

Born on April 14, 1957 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to parents, Albert and Lyn Hill of Vancouver, Washington. Dale is survived by his wife of 32 years, Beverly; his parents; sons, Andrew and Kevin; and sisters, Debbie Meeker, Diana Bittinger, and Dena Rogers. He was a close friend of Beverly's brothers, Robert and Terry Deen.

A 1975 graduate of Lakewood High School in Colorado, Dale attended Oregon State University for two years, and graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in Education in 1979. He received a Master of Education degree from the University of LaVerne. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Dale was commissioned an officer in the United States Marine Corps in 1979 and served for five years, reaching the rank of captain and serving in Korea and Japan.

He was a resident of Loomis, California, for the past 25 years. He taught for the San Juan Unified School District for 20 years, most recently teaching 8th grade history at Louis Pasteur Middle School in Orangevale.

Dale was an avid outdoorsman, who often pointed to his fishing trip on the Amazon River in Peru as a highlight. An enthusiastic athlete, he leaves behind his Sunday night basketball buddies. Those who knew Dale will never forget his joy and zest for life. He was always quick to lend a helping hand and the sound of his laughter brightened a room.

He was a kind and compassionate man who you could tell upon meeting, wanted to make a difference. He was a caring tutor with the Placer Adult Literacy Service for only a short time, but made a huge impact on his learner and those around him. He will be greatly missed by all!
