Remembering Anne Jewett

A celebration of the life Anne Allumbaugh Jewett was held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at her home in Meadow Vista. Visitors reminisced at their leisure with family members and friends and selected a Dalmatian collectible to take home with them to forever remind them of Anne's love and affection. Anne passed away on March 15, 2011. She was born to Dorothy and Willard Fay Allumbaugh on July 3, 1931 in Eugene, Oregon. She was a tomboy and always lived life to the fullest. She was a positive influence and mentor to her younger sister, Helen. Anne graduated from Oregon State University in 1953 with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. She was a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association. She enjoyed many trips to the Oregon Coast with her sorority sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Other travel included a safari in Kenya, a delightful trip to Hawaii, several trips to the Grand Teton National Park, and repeat visits to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Anne's careers included Laboratory Technician for various medical facilities, Colfax High School Career Center Counselor, and Placer County Adult Education Aide. Anne was an active member and past President of the Literacy Support Council of Placer County and was a dedicated reading coach with the Placer Adult Literacy Service for many years. She was a long-time member of the Audubon Society, and her backyard was a sanctuary for many species of birds that she lovingly fed each day. Anne was first elected to the Meadow Vista Water District Board in 1981, was re-elected four times, and served until she retired in 2011. She was well known in Meadow Vista, not only for her service on the water board, but for her lengthy walks throughout the community with her colorful Dalmatians. Over the past two decades, Anne rescued four Dalmatians from animal shelters and loved them dearly. In her younger years, Anne raised Quarter Horses on a ranch in Weimar and showed horses with the Auburn Sierra Rangers. Anne married George Jewett in 1956. Although they divorced, they were blessed with three children: Cynthia Anne (husband Calvin), Lorraine Elizabeth, and Mark Alan. Anne adored her two grandchildren: Kristin and Jared. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Mark. Anne passed away at her home in Meadow Vista, where she had lived for more than 35 years. She received loving care provided by family members and caregivers from "Assist You." In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice.
